The small life of flowers

Flowers, a bee, and tiny visitors reveal a lively world when you stop to look closely.

A bee photographed up close

Flowers are a landscape at a smaller scale. Look closely and the stillness disappears: a bee arrives, an insect crosses a petal, and the whole scene becomes busy with life.

These photographs move between flowers and their tiny visitors. I enjoy the change in attention they ask for. A wide view lets you take in a place; a close-up asks you to stay with a single shape, color, or movement.

The bee is a reminder that even a quiet-looking garden is full of activity. You only have to pause long enough to see it.
