Temples and quiet details
A few views of Thai temples, from Wat Arun to golden figures and the details that invite a closer look.

Thailand’s temples reward a slower look. One visit might leave you with the full shape of a building against the sky; another, with a face or figure whose expression stays with you.
These photographs bring together a few different encounters: Wat Arun, a Bangkok temple, a golden Buddha, and the giant guardian at the Emerald Buddha Temple. They are not one single visit, but they share the same invitation to notice the details as well as the architecture.
At Wat Arun, I was especially drawn to the expression in the Buddha’s face. I could not quite name what it made me feel, which is part of why I kept returning to the image. Sometimes a photograph is valuable because it leaves a question open.
